Who we are

Fields and Fences is a small, thoughtful training and teaching program grounded in curiosity, compassion, and continually evolving, research-informed horsemanship.

At its heart, this is a place for horses and riders who don’t always fit neatly into a box. Our work spans everything from complex rehabilitation and retraining to supporting higher-level riders seeking refinement, problem-solving, or multi-disciplinary growth. We prioritize listening carefully to the horse and the rider in front of us, then moving forward with targeted, individualized training that draws on practical experience, biomechanics, current research, and respect for each horse’s unique needs. Every program is tailored not just to the horse, but also to the person connected to them and the season they’re in—because no two horses, riders, or moments are the same.

We are passionate about helping riders understand why their horse behaves as it does and how to become the partner their horse truly needs. That comes from asking thoughtful questions about the horse’s body, history, and experiences, then applying that knowledge in a way that builds confidence and strengthens the partnership. When riders grasp the why, they can make informed decisions, support their horse effectively, and participate fully in their training journey.

Transparency and honesty are central to how we work. We share the real process—the progress, the pauses, and the pivots—because growth is rarely linear. By showing both the successes and the challenges, we provide a clear picture of what true development looks like for horses and their riders.

Above all, we believe this work matters. Caring for horses with integrity, guiding riders thoughtfully, and nurturing the bond between horse and human isn’t just what we do—it’s who we are.
